13/9/11 Travelled to Perth

We travelled to Perth, by passing Denham and Kalbarri which we had planned to visit. Maybe next time.
Kangaroo Paw was sprouting by the roadside.

12/9/11 Travelling to Geraldton

On the trip between Carnarvon and Geraldton we saw some of Western Australia's beautiful wild flowers.

By chance at the Billabong Roadhouse we meet up with Peter Wise, who has been travelling around Australia on his bicycle pulling three trailers loaded with his life's necessities.  We first met Peter (and saw his bike) two years ago when we were travelling around the Derby and Wyndham localities.

11/9/11 Blowholes near Carnarvon

We travelled about 76km to the blowholes  north east of Carnarvon.  The big blowhole roared and boomed and the smaller blow holes whistled and hissed.  We spent a long time watching and photographing them.

A view of the lighthouse and the blowhole "special house"!

10/9/11 Carnarvon

We found the Carnarvon Adventist meeting place and joined in a morning of fellowship and worship. In the afternoon we wandered around the Carnarvon historical precinct.  We walked the one mile long old jetty.

After that we viewed "The Dish" which was part of the tracking of Apollo 11 moon landing etc but is now obsolete.

9/9/11 Coral Bay and south towards Carnarvan

Coral Bay is a blue jewel.  The water is crystal clear and the aqua contrast with the blue sky.  Large queen snapper fish came and nibbled our toes.

Travelling further south the road side is decorated with termite mounds. We crossed the Tropic of Capricorn.

5/9/11 From Port Hedland to Robe River

We left the bustle and business of Port Hedland behind.  On the way we ate lunch at Port Samson.  It is a sleepy little town  with beautiful blue skies and aqua water.

The wild flowers are coming out. Mauve Mulla Mulla is in full bloom everywhere and there are lots of Sturt's Desert Peas stretching across the rocks.

We spent the night in a free 24 hour stopping place on the side of the Robe River along with many other campers.

6/9/11 Robe River to Exmouth

We travelled through the beautiful WA landscape.  The Ashburton River was worth photographing.

The road cuts through a number of large red sand hills which roll away into the distance.

On the horizon are many hills with fascinating shapes. They recall high school geography lessons about mesas and buttas.
